Indiana University-Bloomington’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies (HLS) seeks to hire a full-time tenure-track assistant professor of contemporary Korea in a social science field (Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, or Economics) to begin August 1, 2027. The position is 100% in HLS’s renowned multidisciplinary Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC). This endowed assistant professor position is generously funded by the Korea Foundation. The teaching load is two courses per semester, and teaching responsibilities encompass both undergraduate and graduate courses. We are interested in candidates who combine disciplinary rigor and area studies expertise to examine real-world challenges facing contemporary Korea and who are interested in contributing to and benefiting from the Institute for Korean Studies. We are interested in candidates whose research agenda focuses on domestic topics and utilizes Korean language sources. This is an exciting moment to join the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies as it leads the university’s international research and teaching missions. Established more than sixty years ago, the EALC department has a long history of interdisciplinarity and boasts faculty strengths in a wide array of social sciences.
