About The Position

The Department of Surgery, Section of Colorectal Surgery is seeking a fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon for the position of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice. This role requires outstanding clinical skills, a collaborative spirit, compassion, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care. The position involves direct patient care, including surgical procedures, consultative services, outpatient services, and inpatient care. Additionally, the role includes teaching responsibilities for medical students and residents in various settings such as conferences, lectures, bedside teaching, rounds, the operating room, clinics, and inpatient services. Continuing medical education and participation in local, regional, and national meetings are also expected. Administrative duties include supervising and evaluating residents and students, and participating in departmental and health system committees.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited general residency training program.
  • Completion of an accredited Colon and Rectal Surgery fellowship.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) by the American Board of Surgery.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
  • Possession of a Texas Medical license without restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct patient care, including surgery, consultative services, outpatient services, and care of hospitalized patients.
  • Participating in teaching activities of the Department including conferences and lectures, bedside teaching, and rounds.
  • Teaching of students and residents in the operating room, clinics, and in-patient services.
  • Engaging in continuing medical education.
  • Attending local, regional, and national meetings.
  • Supervising and evaluating residents and students.
  • Participating in committee memberships at the Departmental and Health System levels.
