About The Position

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is undergoing a period of growth and transformation, focusing on delivering high-value care, driving research and innovation, and cultivating excellence in medical education. The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is a dynamic program within the Department of Medicine, dedicated to patient care, research, and education, with over 20 faculty and Advanced Practice Providers. They provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services across four hospitals and manage an ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship Program. UTMB is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice to join this division. This role emphasizes high-quality clinical care, teaching, and engagement in the academic mission, contributing to scholarly and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient and/or inpatient gastroenterology care, including management of liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal cancers, and other digestive disorders.
  • Participate in endoscopic procedures, as appropriate to training and experience.
  • Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and didactic settings.
  • Engage in departmental and divisional quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including surgery, oncology, radiology, and nutrition—for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and other academic programs.
