About The Position

The University of Miami is seeking an Assistant Professor of Clinical in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, specializing in Anatomic Pathology. This role involves providing patient care services, focusing on microscopic examinations of hematologic specimens, reporting findings, and verifying diagnoses. The position also includes participation in educational activities for residents, fellows, and medical students, as well as collaborative research efforts. Maintaining high standards of professional services to ensure departmental accreditation is a key responsibility. The work is primarily performed in a hospital environment, requiring a high level of citizenship and professionalism.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O.
  • Board Certified or Board eligible in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or both.
  • Additional Board Certification or eligibility in Hematopathology.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida.
  • Strong general knowledge in Hematopathology.
  • Ability to enhance communication and relations in a diverse professional work force.
  • Experience with methods, tools, and measurements for quality improvement using a team-based model.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards of JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA.
  • Ability to work independently and make reliable recommendations and diagnoses.
  • Knowledge of all hospital and service procedures and policies regarding hazardous material management, biohazard exposure, and the use of universal precaution.
  • Proficient in providing excellent diagnostic and laboratory management services for benign and malignant hematopoietic diseases.
  • Committed to teaching and training of residents, fellows, medical students.
  • Strong record of participation in peer-reviewed clinical and translational research.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care services at UMH, JMH, satellites (JSMC, JNMC, JWMC), and SCCC and satellites.
  • Focus on microscopic examinations of hematologic specimens, reporting of findings, and verifying coding diagnosis in the computer in a timely manner.
  • Provide 24-hour call coverage according to assigned division/s.
  • Participate in educational activities for pathology residents and fellows.
  • Participate in educational activities for medical students.
  • Participate in collaborative research opportunities (basic/clinical or applied research) and seek sponsored programs funding.
  • Participate in daily quality assurance and in Department of Pathology hospital committees and working groups.
  • Maintain high standards of professional services to ensure JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation.
