About The Position

Sanford Health – Marshfield Clinic is seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented, full-time AP/CP board-certified, hematopathology fellowship-trained pathologist to join its Division of Laboratory Medicine in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Additional surgical pathology training is preferred but not required. The practice includes nearly 15 pathologists across four communities in central and northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, with subspecialty expertise in cytopathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, neuropathology, hematopathology, infectious disease pathology, and transfusion medicine. The group is supported by two PhD clinical laboratory scientists. The service handles approximately 50,000 surgical cases, ranging from routine to complex and including rare and interesting cases. Physician assistants and staff gross all surgical specimens, including frozen sections during off hours. AP call, if applicable, is approximately one in six weekends and one in seven weeknights; call usage is slim and often from home. On-site ancillary diagnostic services include a broad immunohistochemical menu and flow cytometry. There are no autopsies. Physicians are strongly encouraged to participate in medical education and research. Pathology core privileges include providing consultation to diagnose, rule out, and monitor disease using microscopic examination of tissue specimens, cell samples, and body fluids, as well as clinical laboratory tests on body fluids and secretions. Pathologists analyze laboratory tests, interpret results, and communicate findings to other physicians. The position is based in Marshfield, Wisconsin, a community of about 20,000 people with a low cost of living, short commutes, safe neighborhoods, and access to outdoor recreation. Sanford Health – Marshfield Clinic is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization; employment may qualify for additional state or federal education loan forgiveness programs.
