About The Position

The Department of Chemistry at Davidson College is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Analytical Chemistry to begin on July 1, 2027. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field and demonstrate expertise in developing and applying novel analytical methods, with a particular focus on mass spectrometry. This role involves teaching introductory analytical chemistry, instrumental analysis, general chemistry, and advanced electives. Contributions to first-year writing courses or introductory lab sciences for non-STEM students are also valued. The position includes start-up funds and a dedicated research lab to support an undergraduate research program.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field before the start of the appointment.
Expertise in the development and application of novel analytical methods, particularly within mass spectrometry.
Ability to create a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking and engages all students.
Ability to welcome and mentor undergraduates from a variety of backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Teach introductory analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis (CHE 220, 320).
Teach introductory general chemistry (CHE 115).
Teach advanced electives commensurate with the candidate’s training and expertise.
Contribute to first-year writing courses or lab sciences for students not pursuing STEM.
Develop and maintain a successful research program involving undergraduates.
Mentor undergraduates from a variety of backgrounds in research.
