About The Position

The Department of Translational Neuroscience at UTMB is seeking innovative scientists for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant and/or Associate Professor levels. UTMB, established in 1891, is the first academic medical center in Texas and offers a supportive environment for scientific discovery. The department focuses on advancing knowledge in nervous system functions and diseases, including chronic pain, neurotrauma, neuroinfectious diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and brain health through collaborative research. They are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Microbiome and Gut-Brain Axis, Bioinformatics and Multiomics, and Biomarkers and Human Tissues and Samples. Successful candidates will establish extramurally funded research programs, contribute to the educational mission, and engage in collaborative initiatives. The department provides access to state-of-the-art facilities and supports faculty development, with rich scientific interactions through various centers and institutes at UTMB, including the Moody Brain Health Institute and the Sealy Institute for Drug Discovery. The Neuroscience Graduate Program, based in the department, is the first PhD program in neuroscience in Texas.

Requirements

  • PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in neuroscience or a related field.
  • Strong record of research accomplishments and publications.
  • Independent extramural funding.
  • Commitment to teaching and mentoring.

  • Expertise in Microbiome and Gut-Brain Axis: Research on gut-brain connections in neurological function/disease.
  • Expertise in Bioinformatics and Multiomics: Analysis of large-scale biological data such as transcriptomics for neurological insights into disease mechanisms and targets.
  • Expertise in Biomarkers and Human Tissues and Samples: Utilizing human samples for biomarker identification, disease mechanisms, and translational research.
