About The Position

The Department of Philosophy and the Centre for Medieval Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in Medieval Philosophy. This will be a joint appointment between the Department of Philosophy (75%) and the Centre for Medieval Studies (25%). The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

Requirements

  • Earned a PhD degree in Philosophy, Medieval Studies, or a closely related field by the date of appointment, or shortly thereafter.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching covering medieval Latin philosophy.
  • Research excellence demonstrated through a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications that meet high international standards; the submitted research statement; presentations at significant conferences; awards and accolades; and strong endorsements from referees.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (including the required materials outlined below), and strong letters of reference.
  • Submit a cover letter.
  • Submit a current curriculum vitae.
  • Submit a research dossier, consisting of a research statement outlining current and future research interests and two recent writing samples.
  • Submit a teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and course evaluations.
  • Provide the name and contact information of three references.
