About The Position

This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU. ‌ The Department of Engineering at Abilene Christian University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. We are seeking a talented engineer and dedicated follower of Christ who desires the opportunity to shape the next generation of engineers. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong desire to develop excellence in teaching and provide intentional mentorship to our students. Furthermore, you will be expected to establish a sustainable research program that prioritizes the active participation of undergraduate students. While we welcome candidates with the potential for growth, the ideal applicant will have already demonstrated excellence in these areas. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Education, or a closely related discipline such as Aerospace, Chemical, Materials Science, Nuclear, or Petroleum Engineering. Founded in 2012, the engineering program currently serves approximately 175 students. The program is currently ABET/EAC accredited under “General Engineering” and will be seeking accreditation in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2027. Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering education, or a closely related field (e.g. aerospace, chemical, materials science, nuclear, or petroleum).
  • Past record of effective communication, teamwork, and planning skills.
  • Record of or demonstrated potential for scholarly work.

Nice To Haves

  • Classroom teaching experience at the University level.
  • Coursework or formal training in engineering education pedagogy.
  • Professional engineering licensure or ability to obtain one.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain research funding for scholarly work.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver effective instruction across a range of foundational and discipline-specific engineering courses.
  • Implement evidence-based instructional methods that reflect current best practices in engineering pedagogy.
  • Lead the development and execution of experiential learning activities and project-based coursework.
  • Collaborate on the continuous improvement of curriculum and laboratory facilities to support ABET accreditation.
  • Establish a sustainable program of scholarly activity consistent with your expertise and the university’s mission.
  • Actively involve undergraduate students in research, providing them with high-impact professional experiences.
  • Pursue opportunities for external funding and peer-reviewed dissemination of research findings.
  • Mentor engineering students in their academic progress, career planning, and professional development.
  • Supervise and guide students through the completion of their senior capstone design projects.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor for student professional organizations and departmental committees.
