About The Position

The Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin, School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applications for a full-time faculty position as Assistant, Associate, or full Professor in Large Animal Surgery. The successful candidate will join a team of experienced professionals in the Large Animal Surgery Section. The University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is a collaborative environment with a focus on veterinary medical education, research, clinical practice, and service. The SVM has recently undergone significant expansion, including enhancements to its large animal hospital with state-of-the-art equipment. The UW-Madison campus offers a strong research community and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, and the city of Madison is a highly desirable place to live and work.

Requirements

  • DVM and PhD or equivalent by start date.
  • Must be licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Wisconsin by start date.
  • American College of Veterinary Surgeons Board Certified or Board Eligible by start date as a result of advanced training in Large Animal Surgery.
  • Applicants with experience in surgery in species such as large ruminants, camelids, etc. are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • An individual with European College of Veterinary Surgeons Board Certification may also be considered.
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent degree) by start date.
  • PhD by start date.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical service within the Section of Large Animal Surgery at UW Veterinary Care, including daytime and emergency duty, and back-up on-call support to residents, interns, and technicians.
  • Participation in clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students and interns and residents in large animal surgery.
  • Up to 20 weeks of clinical duty per year.
  • Covering an equitable portion of lecture and laboratory teaching shared with the section (most recently averaging 10-15 lectures and 10-15 laboratories per year).
