About The Position

Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) is a public two-year and four-year degree granting institution founded in 1909. NNMC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and operates from two campuses in Espanola and El Rito, serving an average of 1,500 students per semester. Applications are invited for a tenure-track assistant professor position (full-time faculty, nine-month contract) for the Information Engineering Technology program in the Department of Engineering and Technology at NNMC. The contract is set to start in January 2027 (preferable) or August 2027. This position requires in-person presence at the Espanola campus and reports to the Chair of the Department of Engineering. The Department of Engineering and Technology offers Bachelor degrees in Information Engineering Technology and Electromechanical Engineering Technology, Associate of Engineering degrees in Information Engineering Technology, Pre-Engineering, and Software Engineering, along with Certificate programs in Computer Aided Design and Cybersecurity. Both Bachelor programs are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Requirements

  • Master Degree in Information Technology, Information Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Ability to develop hands-on lab material in his/her own areas of interest (e.g., programming, web systems, mobile device applications, AI, human-computer interactions, databases, computer networks)
  • Experience with or the desire to learn about and implement online course delivery
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Commitment to adopt and implement industrial certification tracks, such as Cisco, VMWare, LPI, JAVA, DBA etc.
  • Ability to advise and interact closely with students, engage in research, and participate in recruitment and retention efforts.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Information Technology, Information Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in the practice or teaching of AI may be given preference.
  • ABDs are welcome and encouraged to apply, if degree completion is imminent.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, prepare and teach undergraduate courses in Information Engineering Technology (i.e. programming using JAVA, Python, web systems, applications for mobile devices using Android Studio, databases (SQL), digital logic design, computer networks, human-computer interaction, capstone)
  • Develop curriculum and teach foundational as well as advanced courses in Artificial Intelligence
  • Develop and maintain laboratories and facilities
  • Develop new program, online and hybrid courses, and curricula as per need and the strategic direction of the department
  • Participate in scholarly work and professional development activities
  • Participate in department, college and community service activities, including service on college committees
  • Mentoring students in research and capstone projects
  • Seek and apply to public and private fund opportunities
  • Advise students regarding curriculum and career matters
  • Participate in accreditation related activities (ABET), including assessment and evaluation of student outcomes
  • Participate in outreach, recruitment and retention initiatives
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
