About The Position

The Department of Physics at the University of Guelph invites applications for a faculty position in medical physics at the Assistant Professor level. This is a tenure-track faculty position at the University of Guelph that will be jointly funded for the initial six-year period by TRIUMF, Canada’s national particle accelerator centre. The department is specifically looking for candidates who will complement the strong experimental research programs at the University of Guelph and TRIUMF, and help lead collaborative efforts between the two institutions. All areas of the application of physics in medicine will be considered, but preference will be given to the following: medical applications of nuclear physics and/or medical applications of accelerator physics. The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous externally-funded research program at TRIUMF’s Life Sciences Division. The anticipated start date for this appointment is a mutually agreed-upon date in 2027. The Department of Physics currently has 18 faculty members and offers strong undergraduate and graduate programs to the Ph.D. level. The graduate and research programs are enhanced by participation in the Graduate Studies in Physics (GSP) program, operated jointly by the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo, and the Biophysics Interdepartmental Group (BIG). Guelph faculty members collaborate at many off-campus research facilities including the Canadian Light Source, Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, and TRIUMF. Experimental and theoretical research areas include astrophysics and gravitation, biophysics, condensed matter physics and material nanoscience, physics education research, planetary surface exploration, and nuclear and subatomic physics.
