About The Position

The Department of Forensic Science at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning in August 2027. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate education at a liberal arts university by developing and teaching courses in the department’s undergraduate forensic science programs and its graduate programs in Biological Forensics and Forensic Pattern Analysis. The position includes developing a research program with potential for extramural funding and opportunities for undergraduate and graduate student involvement. Candidates whose research incorporates DNA analysis are particularly encouraged, as this could support the Greyhound Center for Cold Case Investigations and the development of a Molecular Animal Diagnostics Laboratory. The candidate is expected to contribute to laboratory instrumentation training and research, collaborate with faculty in Forensic Science and Natural and Applied Sciences, and help integrate emerging forensic technologies into the curricula. Teaching may include trace evidence, criminalistics, biological forensics, forensic microbiology or microbiomes, DNA-based courses with laboratory and instrumentation analysis, undergraduate foundation courses, and courses for non-majors. The department values candidates who support high-impact practices consistent with Jesuit higher education, provide valuable experiences for students, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to equity and inclusion through research, teaching, or service. Faculty development opportunities, including startup funds to establish a research program, are available. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, statement of teaching interests, and description of the research program. Reference information will be requested after applying. For full consideration, applications should be received by December 31, 2026. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027, while the position description states that the appointment begins in August 2027. Salary range is $81,000–$82,500.
