About The Position

Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of Environmental Behavioral Sciences within the Department of Environmental Social Sciences. The scope of the search is broad, and we welcome applications from candidates involved in any aspect of the study of human ecology, human behavior, or human institutions as they pertain to sustainability, climate change, adaptation, or resilience. Our department operates on the principle that addressing environmental challenges requires deciphering the complex behavioral, structural, or historical dynamics of human systems. We seek an innovative scholar focusing at any—or the integration—of these levels, whether investigating individual choices and behavior change, structural dynamics and social organization, the institutional governance of resources and risk, or related topics. We welcome candidates who approach these questions through diverse research strategies—whether qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods—including formal and computational modeling, experimental and data-driven analyses, or field-based, systemic, and historical inquiries. The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability is an interdisciplinary, mission-driven school, and we seek scholars who are comfortable forging collaborations across disciplines and departments.
