About The Position

The College of Education at Towson University invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in the Department of Elementary Education. This role requires three years of PreK-12 grade teaching experience in public schools. Faculty with expertise in elementary education curriculum and instruction, particularly in reading instruction and assessment, writing instruction, and supporting multilingual learners, are encouraged to apply. The preferred start date is August 2027.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction or an education-related field. ABD applications will be considered, but the appointment will be at the instructor rank, and all degree requirements must be completed by August 1, 2027.
  • Three years PreK-12 grade teaching experience in public schools.
  • Expertise in elementary education literacy curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience supporting multilingual learners and/or urban schools.
  • A promise of high-quality research.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative manner with colleagues and school-based partners.
  • Commitment to working across programs, disciplines, and cultures to strengthen the field.
  • Strong commitment to teaching and working with teacher candidates and novice teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and Supervising: Research-active instructors teach/supervise 6 course units (equivalent to 18 credits) over a 9-month academic year in our student-focused programs, providing high-quality instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels in a variety of literacy courses.
  • Scholarship: Development/continuation of a focused area of research that includes peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, grant funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with students.
  • Service: Active service participation at the department, college, university, community, and professional levels.
