About The Position

The Department of Political Science at the University of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in American Politics, with a focus on American institutions, beginning in August 2027. We seek a scholar whose research advances the study of American national political institutions and their development, operation, and consequences. Special preference will go to candidates whose research focuses on the executive and legislative branches. We welcome applications from scholars working across the breadth of American national institutions and especially encourage candidates whose research engages Historical Political Economy (HPE), American Political Economy (APE), and/or American Political Development (APD). This position is part of a broader effort to strengthen the department’s capacity in historical and political economy approaches. The successful candidate will maintain an active and innovative research program that makes important theoretical and empirical contributions to the study of American politics. Candidates whose research would benefit from the University of Florida’s substantial investments in high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and data-intensive research are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring missions, including its doctoral methods curriculum. Teaching opportunities include courses on American political institutions, American political development, political economy, historical political economy, and research methods, as well as courses in the candidate’s areas of specialization. The Department of Political Science offers a vibrant environment for research spanning American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and methodology. The University of Florida provides extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and research support, including substantial intramural seed-funding programs and access to HiPerGator, the largest university-owned supercomputer in the United States, as well as a growing range of university-wide initiatives in artificial intelligence and computational research.
