About The Position

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in Fall 2027. As an Assistant Professor, responsibilities include teaching, scholarship/research/creative activity, and service in support of the university’s mission. This position is a 100% appointed, 9-month, tenure-track position. Applicants for this position should have a strong research record, with emphasis in semiconductor electronics, photonics, and their associated materials. Additional specific areas of interest include power electronic devices, artificial intelligence, neuromorphic computing, quantum computing, and MEMS. Successful candidates are expected to leverage the University of Arkansas’s unique and advanced in-house semiconductor research infrastructure and join a group of renowned faculty in the field to create a thriving research program. They are also expected to demonstrate collaborative and interdisciplinary synergies with existing faculty, particularly those with research strengths in power devices and process development, as well as demonstrate a commitment to teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be affiliated with the newly established Arkansas Research Institute of Electronic Systems (ARIES). ARIES is home to several major research centers including: i) Multi-User Silicon Carbide Research and Fabrication Laboratory (MUSiC), a newly commissioned 22,000 sq. ft. laboratory and cleanroom, housing a 6” SiC fab with production-level equipment for low-volume prototyping and with industry level process control; ii) High-Density Electronics Center (HiDEC) for advanced electronics packaging; iii) the National Center for Reliable Electric Power Transmission (NCREPT) for testing and measurement up to 6 MVA/15 kVac/1.5 kVdc. ARIES is complemented by the Arkansas Materials Institute, housing growth and advanced metrology for semiconductors, ferroelectrics, and complex quantum systems. This is an in-person position. Most university classes are offered face-to-face, and extensive in-person engagement in such activities as office hours, student advising, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is essential to advancing student success and departmental effectiveness. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics from an accredited institution of higher education, conferred by the start of employment

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience in the area of interest described above
  • Experience in attracting and securing funding for research activity
  • Experience mentoring students and/or staff
