About The Position

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in the College of Science and Engineering at Idaho State University (ISU) is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in energy and power systems engineering to join our dynamic and growing team of engineering educators and researchers. Applications are invited from candidates with outstanding teaching and research potential in the area of energy systems which may include power engineering, electronics, power system protection, stability, resilience, and power quality aspects for hybrid AC/DC grids with HVDC (High-Voltage Direct Current), DER (Distributed Energy Resources) integrations or other related energy and power systems areas. Candidates who value working across disciplinary boundaries, within and outside ECE, and with communities and industry, are strongly encouraged to apply. In addition to classroom and laboratory teaching, there are opportunities to engage with students through research, capstone projects, and student clubs. The Department offers BS, MS and PhD degree programs that enroll traditional students as well as working professionals from industry. Candidates with strong experience in outstanding pedagogy and/or pedagogical research, as well as building externally funded research programs, are particularly encouraged to apply. Opportunities will be available to establish research collaboration with industry and government organizations in energy and related areas. Experience with RTDS and SCADA systems will be a plus. Idaho State University faculty has a long-standing collaborative relationship with Idaho National Laboratory, which provides opportunities for joint research projects and joint faculty appointments. Requirements

Ph.D. in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Strong interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching and the ability to effectively develop, instruct, and engage learners.
Experience in effectively communicating the results of research within and outside of the academy, including publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Industry experience in engineering, trades, sciences, and technology industries.
Experience with interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects as well as with managing large, multi-year research projects.
Experience working with industry and community partners for research projects.
Team, lab, and facility management experience, including but not limited to safety, supervision, and procurement.
Pedagogical experience and training in teaching, lesson planning, and curriculum design across wider spectra of ECE related topics.
Teaching, research, service, and volunteerism related to the faculty role, as well as community boards and organizations, outreach to and helping in high-need communities and areas.
Grant application and financial management experience, and personnel training.

Responsibilities

Participation in teaching programs, including classroom teaching, supervision of students conducting research, and personal interactions with and advising students.
Participation in research, including the preparation or performance of creative works and reflective inquiry, and disseminating research results by means appropriate to the discipline.
Actively engaged in service and participate in the collegial responsibilities of Departmental, College, and University governance.
Dissemination of knowledge to the general public by making available the faculty member’s knowledge of the discipline.
