About The Position

The Department of Educational Policy & Leadership (EPL) in the School of Education at the University at Albany, State University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Higher Education. We seek a scholar whose research and teaching focus on Higher Education. Particular interest exists in candidates whose work draws upon organizational theory to advance understanding of postsecondary institutions, systems, leadership, and change, including relationships with PK-12 settings. We also welcome applicants whose scholarship employs other theoretical and methodological approaches that contribute to the study of Higher Education. We welcome applicants from a broad range of scholarly traditions and methodological approaches whose work contributes to the study of Higher Education. The successful candidate may examine issues related to higher education organizations, leadership, governance, policy, student experiences, student outcomes, institutional effectiveness, workforce development, emerging technologies, K-12 schooling, or other important dimensions of postsecondary education. We seek applicants whose scholarship advances knowledge of Higher Education and prepare the next generation of scholars and leaders in the field. The successful candidate will join a department whose faculty conduct research and prepare scholar-leaders across educational settings ranging from pre-K through higher education with a prominent record in globally engaged research, service and teaching.

Requirements

An earned doctorate degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization by August 20, 2027. A doctorate in Higher Education is one means of demonstrating such preparation; however, applicants holding doctorates in other fields who can provide evidence of sustained research, teaching, service, and/or professional work focused on Higher Education are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants who are ABD will be considered if all degree requirements are expected to be completed prior to the start of the appointment.
Preparation and expertise in Higher Education demonstrated through research, teaching, professional practice, scholarly training, or a combination thereof.
Evidence (or strong potential) of scholarly productivity and a clear research agenda in Higher Education, with capacity to develop and sustain an active program of research appropriate to career stage.
Evidence of commitment to effective teaching and mentoring students in higher education settings, including through graduate instruction, teaching assistantships, instructor-of-record experience, advising, mentoring, or comparable educational experiences, consistent with departmental core courses.
Demonstrated research productivity, with a research agenda that is aligned with external funding opportunities and evidence of or strong potential for obtaining external funding commensurate with the candidate's career stage in Higher Education.

Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Higher Education and Educational Policy & Leadership and an AAQEP Accredited Leadership program
Advising master's and doctoral students

Fostering connections with higher education institutions and professional organizations
Providing service to the department, school, university, and profession
Contributing to courses in Higher Education and departmental core, and research-methods courses consistent with their expertise
