About The Position

The Department of Earth, Environment, and Society at the University of St. Thomas is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, Geographic Information Science (GIS), or a related field, starting Fall 2027. The ideal candidate will be an interdisciplinary environmental scholar who uses geospatial analysis (GIS, remote sensing, spatial modeling, environmental informatics visualization) to address environmental challenges in human and natural systems. The position emphasizes the teacher-scholar model, with a focus on scholarship engaging issues like environmental change, sustainability, ecosystem resilience, climate adaptation, environmental justice, water/land systems, urban/regional sustainability, socioecological systems, and conservation science. The role involves teaching introductory and advanced GIS and geospatial analysis courses, as well as courses for broader environmental curricula. The standard teaching load is six, four-credit courses per year, with potential for research reallocation for faculty with active research labs. Responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda with undergraduate collaborators, contributing to interdisciplinary initiatives, participating in departmental and university service, cultivating external partnerships, and supporting the University's mission of advancing the common good. The department is interdisciplinary, offering programs in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, GIS, Geology, and Sustainability, and is housed in a STEAM facility with excellent research and teaching labs, including a new GIS computer classroom. Requirements

• PhD (U.S. or Foreign Equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, Geology, Sustainability, Natural Resources or related field, or ABD candidates nearing completion.

• Scholarship engaging issues such as environmental change, sustainability, ecosystem resilience, climate adaptation, environmental justice, water or land systems, urban or regional sustainability, socioecological systems, conservation science, or other environmental problems.
• Ability to teach introductory and advanced GIS and geospatial analysis courses.
• Ability to teach courses serving broader environmental curricula.
• Interest in Common Good Community-Engaged courses.
• Ability to involve and mentor undergraduate collaborators in research.
• Commitment to inclusive research practices.
