About The Position

The University of North Dakota’s Department of Chemistry seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Physical Chemistry, beginning in Fall 2027. This is a 9-month position contingent on available funding, based onsite at the UND Grand Forks campus. The department seeks a scholar whose research is rooted in experimental physical chemistry and who can integrate computational chemistry, quantum chemical methods, molecular simulation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or other data-driven approaches to study molecular and materials systems relevant to energy, sustainability, and advanced technologies. The successful candidate is expected to establish a nationally recognized, externally funded research program and contribute to interdisciplinary research aligned with UND’s Grand Challenges and strategic priorities. The approximate effort distribution is 30% teaching, 60% research, and 10% service. The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including physical chemistry fundamentals and sequences, mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, and direct graduate theses and independent study projects. The role also contributes to curriculum development, assessment, recruitment, outreach, safety initiatives, and departmental, college, and university service. The department is part of the College of Arts & Sciences and offers ACS-certified bachelor’s degrees as well as master’s and doctoral programs. The position requires a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field completed by August 15, 2027, and successful completion of a criminal history background check. The position supports visa sponsorship for continued employment. Applications must include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, research statement, teaching statement, three letters of recommendation, and unofficial transcripts. Full consideration requires receipt by December 16, 2026; the position remains open until filled.
