Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students. CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi, and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Nursing, the Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Track will be responsible for the overall administration, management, growth, and continuous improvement of the FNP Program; and will have oversight of the academic, faculty, student, accreditation, retention, and administrative functions of the FNP curriculum of study, designed to be delivered as an innovative immersion learning experience utilizing the executive-education format. The Director will assist in strategic planning, program growth, student recruitment and retention, curriculum development, mentoring of FNP faculty, and teaching selected graduate courses. The FNP Director will maintain a teaching load as assigned, prepare or contribute to research and scholarly writings, and participate in University, College, and community committees as assigned.
