About The Position

The Department of Business Law at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will teach business law and have research interests in those areas relevant to our programs. In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Requirements

  • J.D. or J.S.D. from an ABA-accredited law school at the time of application.
  • Admission to a state bar at the time of application.
  • College or University-level teaching experience in law or legal studies.
  • Either (a) received a J.S.D. within the past five years, or (b) published two articles in a law review within the past five years.
  • Authorization from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to work in the United States at the time of appointment (if not a U.S. citizen).
  • Authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience practicing law.
  • A Ph.D., LL.M., M.B.A. or other graduate degree in business, economics, or real estate from a college or university accredited in the United States.
  • Law review membership, and/or experience as a law clerk at the appellate level in the United States.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to support the department and the college.
  • Evidence of effective engagement OR potential to engage with a diverse student body.
  • Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Experience creating a student-centered learning environment.
  • Research/Lab experience that includes working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Teach business law and, if qualified, real estate at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Support extra-curricular student engagement, which may include overseeing student competitions.
  • Employ a variety of teaching strategies to enable students to think analytically and to communicate effectively.
  • Engage actively in research and publication in their areas of primary teaching responsibility.
  • Maintain the college’s Scholarly Academic qualification throughout their employment.
  • Provide service to the University and the community.
  • Conduct weekly office hours.
  • Attend faculty meetings.
  • Participate in the assessment of student learning.
  • Serve the department, college, and university.
