About The Position

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computer Science at the assistant professor level beginning Fall 2027. Candidates from all CS-related specialties are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to our Computer Science, Data Science, and Mathematics majors. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to teaching the Computer Science curriculum to a wide range of students, enthusiasm for teaching all levels of undergraduate students, and a research program that can involve undergraduate researchers. This position involves teaching three courses a semester. To support your research agenda, the college offers a paid semester-long research leave in the 4th or 5th year of service after a successful Third-Year Review. The majority of our STEM pool is female and also includes a significant number of first generation and traditionally underrepresented students. At Lake Forest College, the quality of a faculty member’s teaching is the most important. We are particularly interested in candidates committed to teaching a diverse student body.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computer Science or a computationally intensive field (to be completed no later than August 2027).
• Ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate Computer Science courses.
• Willingness to teach a course in the College's first-year studies program.
• Ability to advise Computer Science students.
• Ability to supervise research projects with undergraduates in Computer Science.
• Ability to maintain an active program of scholarly research.
• Current CV that includes documentation of teaching experience.
• Cover letter that describes your motivation for applying to Lake Forest College.
• Teaching Philosophy Statement: Include a statement about teaching practices in diverse and inclusive environments.
• Research plan that also details your strategy for involving undergraduates in your work.
• Three reference letters.
