About The Position

The McGill University Department of Psychiatry, in affiliation with the Douglas Mental Health Institute, is seeking a full-time Clinician Scientist for a three-year renewable appointment as an Assistant Professor (Clinical) on the Contract Academic Staff. This position focuses on psychosis and treatment resistance in severe and persistent mental illness, with a particular interest in comorbid substance-use disorders. The successful candidate will conduct research, hold grants, and practice clinically at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute, contributing to its research center and the broader CIUSSS-ODIM mission. The department values a respectful, multi-disciplinary, and inclusive environment and is affiliated with McGill University, a leading international institution located in the vibrant city of Montreal.

Requirements

  • Completed advanced Psychiatry training (fellowship/graduate studies).
  • Hold an MD and hold, or be eligible for, licensure as a psychiatrist in the province of Quebec.
  • Show evidence of strong research productivity.
  • Demonstrate current or potential ability to attract competitive funding.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the field of psychosis.
  • Possess an advanced capacity to engage in all aspects of a university-affiliated psychiatry department (clinical, education, and/or research).
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
  • Ability to interact in English and French with patients, families, and health care professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the clinical mission of the Douglas Mental Health Institute.
  • Provide excellent teaching and supervision to residents and medical students.
  • Participate in hospital administrative activities.
  • Make innovative contributions to the academic mission of the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Devote 50% of time to research.
  • Apply for external funding from agencies such as CIHR and FRQ-S.
  • Be actively involved in McGill’s academic mission, including research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and participation in academic and administrative committees.
  • Contribute to service activities within their unit, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
