About The Position

McGill University's Department of Medicine, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, is seeking to fill a full-time position for a Clinician-Scientist, Full Professor (Clinical), as a member of the Contract Academic Staff. This role is based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not lead to tenure. The Department of Medicine is recognized as a leader in academic medicine, with its educational and research initiatives supporting excellent and innovative clinical programs across its affiliated teaching hospitals. The McGill University Health Centre is one of McGill’s primary teaching hospitals, associated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the globally recognized McGill University, situated in the dynamic and diverse city of Montreal, Quebec. The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the MUHC is a premier academic gastroenterology program in Canada, offering tertiary and quaternary care services across three main hospital sites: the Royal Victoria Hospital (Glen Site), the Montreal General Hospital, and the Lachine Hospital. The Division specializes in comprehensive programs for inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.

Requirements

  • Hold an MD degree and have completed specialty training in Gastroenterology.
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Gastroenterology.
  • Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec.
  • Have completed at least three (3) years of dedicated post-residency clinical and research training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at an internationally recognized expert centre.
  • Documented procedural competency in endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), complex endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), interventional endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), including third-space endoscopy procedures.
  • Hold a PhD or equivalent research doctorate in a discipline relevant to gastrointestinal endoscopy.
  • Have an established and internationally recognized independent research program in advanced therapeutic endoscopy with a substantial track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Hold the academic rank of Full Professor (or international equivalent) at the time of application.
  • Possess a sustained record of supervision of MSc, MD, and PhD trainees.
  • Have an established international invited-lecture portfolio.
  • Demonstrate a record of academic leadership at the institutional, national, and international level.
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
  • Ability to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Spend 50% of time dedicated to research and develop and maintain an independent and productive research program expected to attract external peer-reviewed funding.
  • Allocate the remaining 50% of time to clinical activity within the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the MUHC.
  • Provide quaternary-level advanced therapeutic endoscopy services as a senior member of the MUHC Advanced Endoscopy Unit, focusing on complex luminal and third-space interventions.
  • Perform procedures including endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), complex and large-lesion endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic full-thickness resection, hybrid resection techniques, peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for high-acuity pancreatobiliary disease, and interventional endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), including EUS-guided drainage and anastomotic procedures.
  • Lead the structured development and dissemination of advanced endoscopy techniques across the Division, McGill network, and Canada, including designing and delivering competency-based training curricula and simulation-based programs.
  • Participate in the Division’s general gastroenterology consultative service, multidisciplinary tumour boards in gastrointestinal oncology, and on-call coverage.
  • Be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission, including research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and participation in academic and administrative committees.
  • Contribute to service activities within their unit, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
