About The Position

The McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Medicine is a leader in academic medicine. The McGill University Health Centre is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), which includes the Lachine Hospital, Montreal General Hospital and Royal Victoria Hospital. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration. As a Clinician-Teacher, your major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians, including both didactic and clinical teaching. Clinical responsibilities will include covering consult services in advanced endoscopy and gastroenterology (including Lachine Hospital), attending in endoscopy clinics, attending in outpatient clinic, and taking evening and weekend on-call duties in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy services. The successful candidate is expected to have experience in Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) with the goal of directing the colorectal ESD Service at McGill. The academic role also involves expansion of simulation-based teaching of basic and advanced endoscopic skills to gastroenterology residents and fellows. In addition, the candidate is expected to further develop our simulation training program for ESD. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. Requirements

  • Hold an MD degree
  • Have completed subspecialty training in Gastroenterology
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Gastroenterology
  • Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec
  • Have completed a fellowship in therapeutic endoscopy with competency in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
  • Have completed specialized training in colorectal Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD)
  • Have experience in directing or developing simulation-based teaching in ESD
  • Have strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
