About The Position

The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Medicine is a leader in academic medicine. The Division of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology at the JGH is the busiest in Canada, with an exceptionally high clinical volume, primarily dedicated to providing direct clinical services to the entire population of Québec. It is recognized in Québec and across Canada as a division that provides ultra-rapid access, high-quality care, and coverage of a broad spectrum of infectious diseases. The division offers a wide range of specialized clinics (sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections, hepatitis, HIV, tropical diseases, outpatient intravenous antibiotic therapy, among others), in addition to extensive inpatient activities spanning all medical and surgical specialties in a tertiary-care hospital. Furthermore, the recent creation of the Centre d’excellence en Maladies Infectieuses (CEMI) will enable the potential candidate to get involved in clinical research.

Requirements

  • Hold an MD degree
  • Have completed training recognized by the Collège des Médecins du Québec in both Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology (dual certification is mandatory); applicants certified only in Infectious Diseases are not eligible
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology
  • Be eligible for licensure in the province of Quebec and hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec in Infectious diseases and Medical Microbiology
  • Have at least one additional year of clinical and/or research training in Infectious Diseases–Medical Microbiology
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Actively involved in the academic activities of the McGill University Department of Medicine where they will be expected to demonstrate aptitude, enthusiasm, and excellence in clinical education.
  • Clinical responsibilities are the primary and main responsibility of the successful candidate and will include participation in all inpatient and outpatient consultation activities of the service, without exception.
  • Coverage of the medical microbiology laboratory and all activities defined in Québec as collective infectious diseases, including infection control and prevention, and antibiotic stewardship.
  • Actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
  • Contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.
