About The Position

The McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of Respiratory Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Medicine is a leader in academic medicine. As a Clinician-Teacher, the candidate will be expected to contribute 15-25% of their time in teaching duties and organization, as well as 10% of their time in administration and contributing to research. The position is for a Clinician-Teacher working in the field of tuberculosis and pleural disorders. Specific clinical training in tuberculosis / nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) and in pleural disorder management is required, and basic clinical research training is a highly desirable attribute for this position. The successful candidate will be a leader in education in collaboration with other members of the Department and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Specific clinical duties within the Respiratory Division will include outpatient and inpatient care of persons with tuberculosis and non-tuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary infections at the various sites of the McGill University Health Centre. The successful candidate will also become a member of the pleural team and perform procedures that may include indwelling catheter placement, pleural biopsies, and thoracoscopies. They will contribute to the development of innovation within the pleural service. The successful candidate’s clinical work will also encompass more general inpatient and outpatient respirology duties at the Montreal Chest Institute/Royal Victoria Hospital (Glen), the Montreal General Hospital, and the Lachine Hospital sites of the McGill University Health Centre. This will involve attending on clinical services such as the inpatient consultation service, respiratory ward, or day hospital. The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees). All McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. Requirements

  • Hold an MD degree
  • Have completed subspecialty training in Respirology
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Respirology
  • Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and for certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec
  • Have completed clinical training in tuberculosis / nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) and in pleural disorder management
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
  • Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
