About The Position

East Texas A&M University, a student-ready Doctoral University classified as R2: High Research Activity by the Carnegie Classification, invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in Clinical Psychology to begin Fall 2027. The university is actively pursuing the development of a PsyD in Clinical/School Psychology, and the successful candidate will play a key role in this exciting initiative. An earlier start date of Spring 2027 may be available for candidates with a conferred doctoral degree. The Department of Psychology and Special Education seeks a dedicated scholar, educator and clinician who demonstrates potential for impactful research, excellence in teaching, and clinical supervision at the graduate level, and meaningful service to the department, university, and profession. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to training Clinical Psychology students in evidence-based assessment and intervention practices. The position will primarily serve the Master of Science in Clinical Psychology and Specialist in School Psychology programs, and will contribute to the development and delivery of the forthcoming PsyD in Clinical/School Psychology, but may also contribute to other graduate courses in the Department of Psychology and Special Education.

Requirements

  • PsyD or Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology or closely related field by Fall 2027; candidates with a conferred doctoral degree are eligible for a Spring 2027 start date
  • Evidence of effective teaching or teaching potential at the graduate level.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity and potential for continued research productivity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Dedication to high standards of ethical practice in psychology.
  • Ability to multi-task, work well as part of a team, and give keen attention to accuracy and details.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain a productive program of experimental research leading to peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and other scholarly contributions
  • Seek external funding to support research as appropriate to the discipline
  • Direct and serve on doctoral dissertation committees
  • Mentor and engage both graduate and undergraduate students in research
  • Create opportunities for student involvement in scholarly activities
  • Provide teaching excellence to graduate students in Clinical Psychology and other programs
  • Teach courses related to Clinical Psychology, including Psychopathology and Diagnosis, Abnormal Psychology, Personality Psychology, Assessment, and others at the graduate level
  • Deliver instruction both online and on any of the university campuses; instructional duties may include teaching during the day or in the evening
  • Contribute to the department's graduate curriculum and develop graduate courses in area(s) of clinical expertise
  • Demonstrate commitment to effective, comprehensive, and innovative pedagogy
  • Prepare and regularly update syllabi and course materials
  • Develop curriculum to meet evolving program needs
  • Advise students at the graduate level
  • Provide clinical supervision for master-level student clinicians in practicum/internship settings
  • Mentor graduate students in the application of evidence-based assessment and intervention techniques
  • Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based assessment and intervention research
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and governance
  • Contribute to the professional community through activities such as conference participation and organizational service
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs
  • Engage in outreach or community engagement consistent with the mission of the university
  • Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of best practices in teaching and technology applications in the classroom, including online teaching
  • Supervision of graduate assistants, practicum students and student interns.
