About The Position

This is a full-time Faculty Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner) position in the Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM). The role requires a strong interest in pediatric hospital medicine, with opportunities to develop expertise in nephrology, pulmonary, behavioral health, and/or surgical co-management. The position will primarily be based at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Anschutz Medical Campus, working within pediatric inpatient general medical, complex pulmonary, behavioral health, nephrology, and/or surgical co-management MD/APP teams. The role involves providing high-quality acute and complex care for patients with primary pulmonary conditions and high medical complexity, working both independently and collaboratively with hospitalist and pulmonary teams. Some clinical time may also include coverage within the CHCO Network of Care, potentially including pediatric provider coverage at Vail Health. The position includes day and nocturnist shifts, requiring weekend and holiday coverage. Additionally, the role may involve short-term cross-coverage to other inpatient settings within CHCO in response to unforeseen crisis staffing situations. The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Children's Hospital Colorado is expanding, aiming to provide expert inpatient medical care for children throughout Colorado and beyond. They offer 24/7 pediatric hospitalist services across all Children's Colorado campuses and partner with other hospitals. Their goals include providing exemplary family-centered care, seamless communication with referring providers, a focus on educating fellows, residents, medical students, and APP students, and pursuing scholarship in areas impacting inpatient pediatric care. Faculty members have a strong clinical focus, with many engaging in research in education and clinical hospital medicine, and also serve in administrative capacities.

Requirements

APN licensure and a masters degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
BLS and PALS certification
Pediatric Nursing Certification Board certificate or other comparable certification required.
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification required.
Ability to obtain Prescriptive Authority in the State of Colorado. Will need to qualify for and obtain prescriptive authority within one year of beginning position.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in general pediatrics or hospital medicine.
Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
Must be willing and able to comply with all onboarding requirements of various community hospitals, Children's Hospital Colorado Network of Care locations, the Main CHCO Campus in Aurora, and the CHCO Campus in Colorado Springs, as needed.
Colorado license, BLS, and PALS will be required prior to start date.
NRP required within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

8 or more years of experience in pediatrics.
Current CO state prescriptive authority.
Inpatient experience.

Responsibilities

Provides direct inpatient care for general pediatric patients across all ages and developmental, nutritional, and physiological needs.
Provides independent, high-quality inpatient care and disease management from admission through discharge, coordinating closely with case management, social work, nursing, and other team members.
Performs history and physical examinations and determines treatment plans.
Monitors illness progression and escalates care for decompensating patients.
Maintains LP procedural skills and privileges (initial privileging may be obtained upon hire).
Participates in multi-disciplinary care including team meetings and patient care conferences.
Nocturnist role: Provides overnight coverage for PHM complex pulmonary, TRACK, and general medical teams, including admissions, transfers, and stabilization of decompensating patients with in-house PHM faculty and APP support.
Cross-coverage to PHM teams including surgical co-management, behavioral health co-management, nephrology co-management, pulmonary and other general pediatric hospital medicine inpatient services.
VAIL HEALTH: ED consultations for pediatric patients, stabilization of decompensating patients with potential for facilitating code situations, determination of appropriate disposition from ED or outside facility, including arranging transport, independent management of pediatric inpatients from admission through discharge with physician telehealth backup. Participates in pediatric education for Vail Health staff and helps build and maintain relationships within the Vail Valley healthcare community.
Attendance and participation at monthly section/staff meetings is required.
