About The Position

This is a faculty position responsible to the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine who reports to the Head of the Division of Internal Medicine. The role involves providing clinical expertise in patient care management, requiring outstanding analytical skills and the capability to empathize with cancer patients and their families. The position also includes administrative duties, research in Oncologic Emergency Medicine, and educational/teaching responsibilities.

Requirements

Completed the M.D. degree in an accredited medical school or equivalent.
Completed residency training in an approved American Residency Program or equivalent.
Made application and accepted by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or Internal Medicine.
Licensed as a physician in the State of Texas.
Board certified in Emergency Medicine or Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent if applicable) or obtain board certification within 3 years of employment.
At least 2 years of experience as an Instructor or 5 years post degree with any combination of time as a clinician, clinical scientist, or GME trainee (except specialties with shorter residency or fellowship).
Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with peers, senior faculty and subordinates.
Excellent oral and written skills.
Ability to synthesize information pertaining to the area of research.
Candidates should be interactive and willing to participate in collaborative studies within and outside the Section/Department.
Experience in education or training (in classrooms or one-to-one setting).
Experience in mentoring of trainees, junior faculty, or staff.

Responsibilities

Provides clinical expertise in patient care management, requiring outstanding analytical skills in order to make judgments regarding the patient’s medical problems and advise the patient on methods to improve their care.
Must have the capability to empathize with cancer patients and their families in a manner that is compassionate and positive.
Attend institutional meetings and serve on committees as requested.
Provide verbal feedback and didactic information exchange regarding meeting progress and outcomes.
Visually review, understand, synthesize, interpolate, summarize, or provide editorial commentary on manuscripts, grant applications, research literature, or professional communications, verbally or by use of electronic and manual methods.
Serve in an exemplary manner as a role model to colleagues, students, and support staff.
Develop and maintain an original, creative, and independent research program in Oncologic Emergency Medicine with evidence of high quality and productivity.
Engage in the educational objectives of the Department as requested.
Attend and participate in teaching and departmental training activities and individual meetings, which require verbal interaction with colleagues and walking to meeting locations throughout the campus.
Serve as a mentor/advisor and provide a balanced, stimulating, ethical, integrated and nurturing educational experience at the highest level of intellectual performance for graduate, postdoctoral and technical personnel.
