About The Position

The Assistant Professor, Clinical Faculty Appointment (CFA) in Benign Hematology role involves a significant focus on clinical service (80%), with smaller allocations for administration (5%), research (5%), and education (10%). The position requires active engagement in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment. The individual will represent the Section of Benign Hematology in various matters, practice internal medicine and Benign Hematology to high standards, and provide physician staffing for the Internal Medicine Center. Responsibilities include complete patient documentation, communication with other physicians, staying updated on current approaches through continuing education, and serving as a role model and peer reviewer. Administrative duties involve committee service, while research entails developing clinical research programs. Educational responsibilities include providing a program in Benign Hematology for fellows and residents and participating in teaching conferences.

Requirements

MD Licensed to practice in Texas
Board certified/eligible in Hematology (or obtained within departmental timeline)
At least 5 year’s experience post degree with any combination of time as a Clinician, Clinical Scientist, or GME trainee (except specialties with shorter residencies or fellowships)

Responsibilities

Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department.
Represent the Section of Benign Hematology in local, regional, state and national matters pertaining to the field of medical oncology.
Practice internal medicine and Benign Hematology in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities.
Be capable of providing complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
Perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician's subspecialty.
Develop and maintain a clinical consultative practice for patients referred to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Provide physician staffing for the Internal Medicine Center at a level commensurate with that, which would be provided by other physicians with the same level of training and experience.
Complete patient documentation for medical records within time frames provided by institutional policy.
Dictate in a clear and concise manner and visually review documents.
Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty.
Request appropriate consultations for patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians.
Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows and residents and students.
Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the Department.
Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings.
Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities in keeping with the goals of the Department.
Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in Benign Hematology for medical Fellows and/or Residents who rotate through the Section of Benign Hematology.
Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences.
