About The Position

Roane State Community College invites applications for a tenure track appointment in Chemistry beginning January 2027. The emphasis of this position is on the ability to teach inorganic and organic chemistry lecture and lab courses. The Chemistry Faculty member is responsible for teaching chemistry courses and laboratories in face-to-face and online learning environments while utilizing technology to enhance student learning. This position maintains a full teaching load, provides student support through scheduled office hours, and contributes to the college's mission through advising, committee service, outreach activities, and participation in campus events. The successful candidate will possess a master's degree with appropriate graduate coursework in chemistry or a related field, have experience teaching chemistry, and demonstrate strong communication, flexibility, and collaborative skills.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree with a combination of 18 graduate semester hours in relevant coursework from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning, as defined in current standards for qualifications of faculty.
  • A minimum of 1-year experience teaching Chemistry courses.
  • Good written communication skills.
  • Exhibit flexibility and collegiality.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach classes as outlined in the course descriptions and course syllabi, through traditional face-to-face or even online settings.
  • Teach 15 course hours per semester and schedule office hours as specified by campus policy.
  • Use of technology to support student learning is expected.
  • Prepare and teach laboratories in support of classes.
  • Respond promptly to requests from the Dean’s office.
  • Support the mission of the college through service such as departmental meetings, committee work, advising, commencement, convocation, and outreach activities.
