About The Position

The Department of Chemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Albany invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (academic year). The candidate will be an experimental chemist whose research addresses advanced materials design and engineering, semiconductor-related chemistry, sustainable/green chemistry, or other areas of applied chemical science. They will establish an externally funded research program and contribute to undergraduate and graduate education, with a particular emphasis on hands-on undergraduate research, workforce preparation, and industrial collaboration. This position will enable the department to launch an applied MS program in "Industry Chemistry" designed to attract current and future employees from regional industry partners. In addition to teaching Chemistry courses and courses in their area of expertise, the candidate will lead departmental efforts to incorporate green and sustainable chemistry principles across the Chemistry curriculum and laboratory programs, particularly to help "greenify" our gen-chem for nursing students, to reduce student exposure to hazardous substances and increase student success. The Department of Chemistry offers undergraduate and graduate programs that provide students with a strong foundation in the chemical sciences and opportunities for advanced research. The department's faculty pursue research across a broad range of areas in chemistry and related fields, fostering an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment. Additionally, the Department of Chemistry and the College of Arts and Sciences offer a collaborative and supportive environment for faculty and students. Requirements

Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/21/2027.
A demonstrated potential for research in the field of Applied Chemistry.
Potential to obtain independent extramural funding.
Evidence of academic preparation, disciplinary expertise, and interest in teaching Chemistry.
Demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
Demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

Nice To Haves

Completed postdoctoral research in Chemistry or a related field.
Strong and growing record of impactful research and peer-reviewed publications.
Demonstrated ability to secure external research funding.
Experience teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in various modalities.
Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students in chemical research.

Responsibilities

Conduct innovative research in chemistry or a related field, publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, present research at professional meetings and conferences, mentor student researchers, and seek external funding to support a productive research program.
Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate chemistry courses, prepare course materials, mentor students, and foster their intellectual and professional development.
Contribute to the governance and functioning of the University, College, and Department through departmental and university service, student advising and mentoring, participation in admissions, and other professional and academic service activities.
