About The Position

The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) in the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-earning, assistant professor in Art History. The position is located at the UCF main campus and is anticipated to start in August 2027. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated teaching and research experience in 18th and 19th century European, United States, or Global Art History. They will carry a 3/3 teaching load that includes undergraduate and graduate courses in Art History that serves SVAD majors and the broader UCF student population. Instructional modalities may include fully online and in-person formats as well as honors seminar sections. The successful candidate must be prepared to deliver high-quality instruction in these modalities as assigned. Additionally, they will guide students in developing undergraduate research projects, supervise internships, and teach lower and upper-division Art History electives aligned with program needs and the candidate’s expertise. Faculty are also expected to produce research in the form of articles, books, and curation while actively pursuing external funding opportunities to support these endeavors. Primary responsibilities include research, teaching, maintaining regular office hours, assessing student performance in a timely manner, and service to the university. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Art History or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated college-level teaching experience (instructor of record, teaching assistantships with significant instructional responsibility, or comparable experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a range of historical periods and/or global art histories.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.
  • Must reside in Florida as of the date employment begins.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in Art History from an accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching art history survey courses online to 100 plus students.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach 18th and 19th century European, U.S. or Global art.
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations.
  • Evidence of effective teaching, such as student evaluations or peer observations.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly activity.
