The Austin Peay State University Department of Art + Design is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art in Ceramics to lead the ceramics program. The position is based on campus in Clarksville, Tennessee, and begins July 30, 2027. The current ceramics curriculum includes a three-course sequence covering various materials, processes, techniques, and concepts such as wheel-throwing, hand-building, clay and glaze mixing, and electric and gas kiln firing. Additionally, there are stand-alone courses in ceramic sculpture and ceramic slip casting. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future direction of the program and is encouraged to incorporate innovative strategies and new technologies. Other teaching duties may include Foundations courses, with potential for developing special topics, study away, and study abroad courses. The Department of Art + Design is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and offers BFA and BA degrees in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Animation and Visual Effects, Art History, and Art Education. The department comprises eighteen full-time faculty, three support staff, and twelve part-time instructors, serving over 250 undergraduate majors. The department is housed in 60,000 square feet of studio, classroom, and office space across two buildings. Austin Peay State University is located in Clarksville, TN, an hour north of Nashville.
