About The Position

Hamilton College’s Art Department seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor with expertise in printmaking and a practice grounded in studio work, scholarship, and teaching. The successful candidate will situate printmaking within historical, cultural, and interdisciplinary frameworks, and engage students in its social and theoretical dimensions as a contemporary practice. The role includes teaching introductory and advanced printmaking, one course in introductory drawing or painting, and mentoring senior concentrators. The teaching load is three courses in the fall and two in the spring. The College offers active support for the candidate’s creative work. The position is a temporary, one-year appointment for the 2027–28 academic year. The successful candidate will bring strong printmaking skills, including the ability to manage a printmaking studio, and teach perceptual, formal, conceptual, and critical skills in a liberal arts context. Hamilton seeks a collaborative educator who can interweave theory and practice, contribute to a vibrant learning community, and demonstrate experience teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations. The Art Department has six full-time faculty and serves concentrators as well as many non-major students. Its facilities include a state-of-the-art building completed in 2014 that supports analog practices and emerging technologies across 2D, 3D, and time-based media. Applicants must hold an MFA and have a record of effective higher-education teaching and demonstrated scholarly and creative achievement. The expected salary for the nine-month appointment is $79,950–$82,450. Applications are considered beginning January 31, 2027, and the position remains open until filled.
