About The Position

The Department of Animal Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Animal Science. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s mission through teaching, research, and service. The primary purpose of this position is to support undergraduate and graduate education in Animal Science, with an emphasis on preparing students for careers in animal health, veterinary medicine, biomedical sciences, and related fields. The faculty member will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in areas such as animal science, laboratory animal science, or related disciplines based on departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to establish or continue a research program aligned with animal health and relevant areas that support the strategic initiatives of the Department of Animal Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences ( CAES ). Collaborative and externally funded research, particularly in alignment with USDA - NIFA , NIH , or other relevant agencies, is strongly encouraged. In addition to teaching and research, the faculty member will participate in graduate student training and advising, contribute to student mentoring and academic success, and engage in departmental, college, university, and professional service.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in animal science or related disciplines.
  • Established or potential to develop an independent, externally funded research program in animal health, animal science, or related areas.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, and staff in a collaborative, interdisciplinary academic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Postdoctoral experience in animal health, animal science, or a related field.
  • Expertise in animal health, bioinformatics, or similar areas of animal science.
  • Record of scholarly publications and presentations at national/international conferences.
  • Experience in graduate student mentorship and advising.
  • Ability to obtain external research funding from agencies such as USDA - NIFA , NIH , or similar.
