About The Position

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing daily Produce department operations, team leadership, food safety compliance, and merchandising execution. This role helps ensure high standards for freshness, quality, presentation, and customer service while driving sales and controlling shrink.

Requirements

  • Previous Produce or fresh food retail experience required
  • Knowledge of produce handling, rotation, and food safety standards
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to work in refrigerated and wet environments
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including mornings, weekends, and holidays

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership, lead, or supervisory experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily Produce department operations, including stocking, rotation, culling, and display execution
  • Support supervision, training, and development of Produce associates
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and handling standards
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory accuracy, and production planning
  • Help control shrink through proper rotation, culling, markdown execution, and damage control
  • Maintain strong visual merchandising standards, including wet rack and seasonal displays
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation throughout the day
  • Support scheduling, task delegation, and workload coverage to meet business needs
  • Provide excellent customer service, including product knowledge and handling special requests
  • Maintain clean, organized prep areas, backrooms, and display cases
  • Communicate department conditions, performance, and opportunities to store and department leadership
  • Uphold safety standards and participate in store‑wide safety and loss prevention initiatives
