About The Position

As the Assistant Produce Manager, you will play a crucial role in helping customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service and managing one of the busiest teams in the store. This position involves assisting the Produce Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit, including ordering, inventory control, product quality, and team supervision. You will effectively coordinate merchandising and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. A key responsibility is maintaining freshness standards by following proper procedures for receiving, processing, packaging, pricing, signage, displaying, and rotating a variety of items. You will also assist in leading a team to deliver the finest quality product, highest level of service, and the greatest customer experience. This includes assisting in hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Produce team. Daily tasks involve unloading and sorting store deliveries, operating and maintaining produce equipment, and ensuring adherence to all company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines. Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a basic knowledge of math, weights and measures
  • Be dependable and reliable
  • Have the ability to work flexible schedule that changes; including night, weekends, and holidays
  • Have and show an outgoing and friendly behavior; a positive attitude and have the ability to interact with our customers
  • Have good communication skills; and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment
  • Perform general housekeeping in the department; clean and sanitize work area (including tables, floor, walls, cases, cooler, freezer, etc.)
  • Adhere to all safety, health, Weights and Measures regulations including COOL, and achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit
  • Be able to perform the following: standing, walking, bending, climbing throughout the entire work day
  • Ability to lift, stack and maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs., from 4” to 72”, for a distance up 3 feet for between 10-50 hours without mechanical assistance
  • Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets a distance up to 20 feet, requiring a force of up to 85 pounds for up to 5 hours

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Produce Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit
  • Responsible for ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and supervision of the Produce team
  • Effectively coordinate merchandising and sales through ongoing planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork
  • Responsible for maintaining freshness standards throughout the department, by following proper receiving, processing, packaging, pricing, signage, displaying, and rotation of a complete variety of items
  • Assist in leading a team that brainstorms to deliver the finest quality of product, highest level of service, and the greatest experience your customers will receive
  • Assist in hiring, teaching, training, developing the Produce team
  • Unload and sort through store deliveries, operate, and maintain produce equipment
  • Ensure the execution of all company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines/regulations, and validate that other Produce team members are also aware of, and following, these procedures
