About The Position

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing all aspects of the produce department, including merchandising, inventory control, product quality, and team leadership. This role helps ensure fresh, high-quality products are consistently available while delivering an excellent shopping experience for customers.

Requirements

  • Previous produce or perishable department experience required
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Frequent standing, bending, and lifting
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments for extended periods

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of produce handling, rotation, and merchandising preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing daily produce department operations
  • Ensure displays are fully stocked, properly rotated, and visually appealing
  • Maintain high standards for freshness, quality, and cleanliness
  • Monitor and reduce shrink through proper handling and rotation practices
  • Support execution of sales plans, promotions, and seasonal displays
  • Ensure adherence to planograms and merchandising standards
  • Maintain pricing accuracy, signage, and product labeling
  • Drive sales through attractive, full, and organized displays
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining appropriate inventory levels
  • Monitor product movement and adjust orders based on trends and demand
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of all produce items
  • Support inventory counts and audits
  • Help train, coach, and support produce associates
  • Provide direction to team members to meet productivity and service goals
  • Promote a positive, team-oriented, and customer-focused work environment
  • Step in to lead the department in the manager’s absence
  • Deliver excellent customer service and product knowledge
  • Assist customers with product selection, questions, and special requests
  • Respond to and resolve customer concerns professionally
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and company policies
  • Maintain proper temperature controls and handling procedures
  • Follow all safety guidelines and operational standards
