About The Position

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing all aspects of the Produce Department, ensuring high-quality products, strong in-stock conditions, and an outstanding customer experience. This role assists in driving sales, managing inventory, and leading associates while upholding company standards for freshness and presentation.

Requirements

  • Previous produce or perishable department experience preferred
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of fresh produce handling, rotation, and merchandising
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs frequently
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching
  • Ability to work in varying temperature conditions
  • Flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Assist in daily Produce Department operations including stocking, rotation, trimming, and merchandising
  • Ensure all products meet freshness, quality, and appearance standards
  • Maintain attractive displays that drive sales and minimize shrink
  • Execute pricing, signage, and promotional plans in alignment with company expectations
  • Support hiring, training, and development of produce associates
  • Provide coaching, direction, and performance feedback to team members
  • Help create a positive, productive, and team-oriented work environment
  • Act as department lead in the absence of the Produce Manager
  • Deliver excellent customer service by assisting with product selection and answering questions
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally
  • Ensure the department is clean, organized, and visually appealing at all times
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory management
  • Monitor sales trends and adjust orders to meet demand while reducing waste
  • Ensure proper rotation (FIFO) and handling to control shrink and spoilage
  • Maintain accurate pricing and signage
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and temperature control guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and local health regulations
  • Maintain cleanliness in prep areas, displays, storage, and backroom
