About The Position

The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for promoting excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer-focused behavior with associates. This role involves greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving issues promptly and professionally. The position focuses on continuous improvement within the department, taking customer orders, and ensuring the quality of fresh merchandise through proper handling techniques. The Assistant Produce Manager assists the Produce Manager in daily operations, including merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service. They also perform the duties of the Produce Manager in their absence, develop and implement merchandising plans to meet financial goals, and ensure correct pricing and production amounts based on weekly ads and specials. This role requires continuous learning about produced merchandise and adherence to company policy regarding production logs. The Assistant Produce Manager oversees department inventories by tracking sales reports, product orders, and supplies, and assists with scheduling, training, rewarding, and recognizing associates. They manage inventory levels, review orders to meet customer demand, maintain backroom organization, and oversee shelf replenishment. The role involves checking and verifying deliveries and invoices, potentially unloading merchandise, and enforcing department practices for receiving, dating, and restocking to ensure product rotation. Monitoring product quality and freshness, breaking down deliveries, and controlling department expenses are key responsibilities. The Assistant Produce Manager ensures associates follow company recipes for prepared products, maintains freshness by removing out-of-code products, and completes required product logs. They keep the produce department well-stocked and appealing, handle special requests like fruit baskets, and unpack merchandise, clean and trim produce, and stock new items. Ensuring merchandise is saleable through stock rotation, proper pricing, and signage is crucial. Maintaining the salad bar and cut fruit/vegetable sections, assisting in building attractive displays, and handling spoiled, damaged, new, or discontinued items according to policy are also part of the role. The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for general sanitation in the department, following cleaning schedules and guidelines to meet health and OSHA requirements, and proper trash disposal. They may assist with baling cardboard. Cooperation with co-workers and superiors is expected to ensure the smooth function of the department and store, with a focus on continuous job performance improvement and utilization of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The Assistant Produce Manager may also be called upon to assist in other departments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Minimum (2) years' experience in management in retail/restaurant/supermarket environment.

  • Utilizes the Learning Management System (LMS) for current and new associates.
  • Manages inventory levels and reviews orders to ensure product quantities meet customer demand.
  • Maintains backroom organization and product storage within company guidelines.
  • Oversees shelf replenishment efforts to ensure product availability for customers, with prioritization for weekly specials, seasonally and locally relevant items, and other high-velocity items.
  • Utilizes the cutting list for accuracy and variety of product.
  • Checks and verifies all department deliveries and invoices to ensure accurate billing.
  • May help unload merchandise and transport to sales floor or storage area.
  • Enforces and follows department practices regarding receiving, dating and restocking to ensure product rotation.
  • Monitors product quality and freshness.
  • Breaks down deliveries.
  • Controls department expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, controls labor costs and reduces losses due to damages, spoiled product and shrink.
  • Ensures associates correctly follow company recipes for prepared products.
  • Maintains freshness by properly removing and recording out of code products.
  • Completes required product logs.
  • Keeps produce department well stocked and appealing to meet customer demands.
  • Smiles and greets customers, answers customer questions, handles special requests such as filling orders for fruit baskets and resolves customer concerns promptly in a polite and professional manner.
  • Unpacks cartons and crates of merchandise, cleans and trims produce, stocks area with new merchandise.
  • Ensures merchandise is in saleable condition which requires rotating stock to ensure freshness.
  • Ensures that product has been properly priced with correct signage.
  • Maintains salad bar and cut fruit/vegetable as needed.
  • Assists in building attractive displays.
  • Accurately completes necessary product logs.
  • Handles spoiled and damaged product, new items and discontinued items accordingly to company policy.
  • Maintains backroom and receiving area security and organization by promoting procedures.
  • Responsible for general sanitation in the department.
  • Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements.
  • Disposes of trash properly.
  • May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained.
  • Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors.
  • Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
  • Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE).
  • May also be called upon to assist in other departments.
