The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for promoting excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer-focused behavior with associates. This role involves greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving issues promptly and professionally. The Assistant Produce Manager focuses on continuous improvement within the department, taking customer orders, and ensuring the quality of fresh merchandise through proper handling techniques. They assist the Produce Manager in daily operations, including merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service. This position also involves performing the duties of the Produce Manager in their absence, developing and implementing merchandising plans to meet financial goals, and staying knowledgeable about weekly ads and specials. The role requires continuous learning about produce merchandise, adherence to production log policies, and overseeing department inventories by tracking sales, orders, and supplies. Additionally, the Assistant Produce Manager assists with scheduling, training, rewarding performance, and delegating tasks to maximize profits. They manage inventory levels, review orders to meet customer demand, maintain backroom organization, and oversee shelf replenishment. Responsibilities include verifying deliveries and invoices, potentially unloading merchandise, and enforcing receiving, dating, and restocking procedures. The role involves monitoring product quality and freshness, breaking down deliveries, controlling department expenses, and ensuring associates follow company recipes for prepared products. They maintain freshness by removing and recording out-of-code products and completing product logs. The Assistant Produce Manager ensures the produce department is well-stocked and appealing, handles special requests, and maintains the salad bar and cut fruit/vegetable sections. They assist in building attractive displays, accurately complete product logs, and manage spoiled, damaged, new, and discontinued items. Sanitation is a key responsibility, including following cleaning schedules and department guidelines to meet health and OSHA requirements. The role may involve assisting in other departments and requires cooperation with co-workers and superiors for the smooth function of the department and store. Continuous improvement of job performance and utilization of provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are expected. The Assistant Produce Manager assists the department manager in supervising all associates within the department and may oversee the Floral department in select stores, with the number of associates supervised depending on store volume.
