The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for promoting excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer-focused behavior with associates. This role involves greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving issues promptly and professionally. The Assistant Produce Manager focuses on continuous improvement within the department, taking customer orders, and ensuring the creation of finished products in a timely manner. A key aspect of this role is ensuring fresh, quality merchandise through proper product handling techniques and minimizing product losses according to company procedures. The Assistant Produce Manager assists the Produce Manager in daily operations, including merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service, and performs the duties of the Produce Manager in their absence. This role also involves developing and implementing merchandising plans to meet financial goals, staying knowledgeable about weekly ads and specials for correct pricing and production, and continuously improving knowledge of produced merchandise. Adherence to and enforcement of company policy regarding production logs is crucial. The Assistant Produce Manager oversees department inventories by tracking sales reports, product orders, and supplies for period-end physical inventory. They also assist with scheduling, training, rewarding and recognizing performance, and delegating work assignments to maximize profits. Utilizing the Learning Management System (LMS) for training, managing inventory levels, reviewing orders to meet customer demand, and maintaining backroom organization and product storage are also key responsibilities. The role ensures shelf replenishment for product availability, prioritizing specials, seasonal items, and high-velocity products. Verification of deliveries and invoices, potential assistance with unloading merchandise, and enforcement of receiving, dating, and restocking procedures are required. Monitoring product quality and freshness, breaking down deliveries, and controlling department expenses through operational efficiencies, labor cost management, and reduction of losses are essential. Ensuring associates follow company recipes for prepared products, maintaining freshness by removing out-of-code products, and completing product logs are also part of the role. The Assistant Produce Manager keeps the produce department well-stocked and appealing, handles special requests like fruit baskets, and ensures merchandise is saleable through stock rotation and proper pricing. Maintaining the salad bar and cut fruit/vegetable sections, assisting with attractive displays, and accurately completing product logs are also duties. Handling spoiled/damaged product, new items, and discontinued items according to policy, and maintaining backroom and receiving area security and organization are required. General sanitation in the department, following cleaning schedules, and meeting health and OSHA requirements are paramount. The role may involve assisting with baling cardboard or other related duties if trained. Cooperation with co-workers and superiors ensures the smooth function of the department and store, with a responsibility for continuous job performance improvement and utilization of all company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The Assistant Produce Manager may also be called upon to assist in other departments.
