About The Position

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing daily department operations, ensuring high-quality standards, fresh product availability, and an exceptional shopping experience. This role assists in driving sales, managing inventory, and leading the produce team while maintaining strict food safety and merchandising standards.

Requirements

  • Previous produce or retail grocery experience preferred
  • Knowledge of fresh produce handling and rotation practices
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing daily produce department functions including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotation
  • Ensure consistent product quality, freshness, and proper handling standards
  • Monitor inventory levels to minimize shrink and maximize sales
  • Support execution of company merchandising plans and seasonal displays
  • Deliver excellent customer service by assisting customers with product selection and questions
  • Promote sales through sampling, suggestive selling, and product knowledge
  • Maintain a visually appealing and well-stocked sales floor at all times
  • Provide direction, training, and coaching to produce clerks
  • Assist with scheduling, task delegation, and productivity monitoring
  • Foster a positive, team-focused work environment
  • Support hiring and onboarding of new employees
  • Execute attractive displays with proper signage, rotation, and pricing accuracy
  • Ensure daily culling of damaged or outdated product
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the department, including prep areas
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Monitor temperature logs, product handling, and storage procedures
  • Maintain adherence to company policies and safety standards
  • Assist with inventory counts, ordering accuracy, and shrink control initiatives
  • Support tracking of department sales, margins, and labor
  • Help manage backroom organization and inventory records
