About The Position

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing daily produce department operations to ensure high standards of freshness, quality, food safety, merchandising, and customer service. This role assists with inventory management, shrink control, labor execution, and associate development while helping drive sales and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Knowledge of produce handling, food safety, and merchandising standards
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment
  • Flexible availability including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds

  • Previous produce, grocery, or retail leadership experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support daily produce operations including ordering, stocking, rotation, and culling
  • Ensure fresh, high‑quality fruits and vegetables are displayed according to company standards
  • Assist with inventory control, backroom organization, and shrink reduction
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe sales floor and prep areas
  • Help execute planograms, displays, promotions, and seasonal sets
  • Ensure produce tables and wet rack areas are full, rotated, and visually appealing
  • Monitor sales trends and assist with ordering adjustments to meet customer demand
  • Model and promote excellent customer service
  • Assist customers with product questions, selections, and special requests
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally
  • Assist with training, coaching, and developing produce associates
  • Support daily work assignments and labor deployment
  • Provide ongoing feedback, recognition, and corrective coaching as needed
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a safety‑focused culture
  • Enforce food safety standards, proper handling, and temperature controls
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures
  • Support audits, inspections, and corrective actions
