About The Position

Healthy Living is a locally owned, independent chain of supermarkets in Vermont and New York, dedicated to providing healthful, innovative, and delicious food with exceptional hospitality. The Assistant Produce & Floral Manager is responsible for the daily functions of the Produce & Floral department, ensuring smooth and effective operations. This role involves purchasing from vendors, maintaining vendor relationships, and providing direction, support, inspiration, and training to department staff. Key supervisory duties include hiring, training, and reporting staffing issues to the Produce and Floral Manager. The Assistant Manager is also responsible for timely and accurate replenishment buying using various systems and data reports to meet budgetary goals. Additionally, they serve as a liaison for the Produce and Floral Manager and Category Manager, offering observations, guest feedback, and general insights.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 2+ years of retail leadership experience (grocery/natural foods preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of produce, ordering systems, and inventory management
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Flexible schedule, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations of the Produce & Floral department, ensuring smooth workflow and organization
  • Lead and supervise staff by training, motivating, scheduling, and delegating tasks
  • Oversee ordering and inventory, including replenishment, backstock, shrink, and vendor communication
  • Ensure accurate and appealing merchandising, including display building, shelf stocking, and signage
  • Deliver outstanding guest service and model high standards for team interactions
  • Monitor sales, margins, and product performance to meet departmental goals
  • Maintain cleanliness, food safety, and compliance with all health standards
  • Participate in hiring and performance reviews alongside the department manager
  • Collaborate across departments and communicate effectively with key internal stakeholders
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and contribute to department growth initiatives
