About The Position

The Assistant Principal will work collaboratively with diverse students, staff, families, and communities to prepare learners for the 21st century. This role involves participating in the development and evaluation of educational programs, encouraging innovative instructional programs, and promoting the use of technology. The Assistant Principal will foster a positive learning climate, deal sensitively with diverse cultural backgrounds, and communicate effectively with students and staff. This position also involves assisting the principal in developing campus improvement plans, managing information systems for campus performance, observing and evaluating employee performance, and serving as a second appraiser for the teacher appraisal system. The Assistant Principal will also assist in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff, supervising operations in the principal’s absence, and planning daily school activities. Responsibilities include supervising student attendance, managing budget requests, requisitioning supplies, and assisting with safety procedures. The role requires coordinating support services, complying with laws and policies, ensuring student supervision, and helping to develop a positive student discipline management system. The Assistant Principal will conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers, participate in professional development, and articulate the school's mission to the community. This position involves sharing supervisory responsibility for professional staff and supervising various personnel. The role requires maintaining emotional control under stress, working with frequent interruptions, and occasional district-wide travel with prolonged and irregular hours.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from a recognized, accredited college or university
  • Appropriate standard administrator certification for the assignment
  • Instructional Leadership Development
  • A minimum of four (4) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.

  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
  • Serve as the second appraiser for the designated teacher appraisal system.
  • Assist the principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
  • Supervise operations in the principal’s absence.
  • Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
  • Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
  • Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
  • Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
  • Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
  • Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and board policy.
  • Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
  • Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignments.
  • Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with the school principal.
  • Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel, and others as assigned.
